1997–98 Heineken Cup

The Heineken Cup 1997/98 was the third edition of the Heineken Cup, the main European cup competition in rugby union. It involved 20 teams from six countries. The final took place on 31 January 1998 at Stade Lescure in Bordeaux instead. Cup Winners' Cup was Bath Rugby in England, the French club CA Brive beat in the final.

Mode

The participants were divided into four groups of five teams. Each team completed one home game and one away game against all opponents in the group. The group winners qualified directly for the quarter-finals, while the runners-up and the best group third parties accounted for in an elimination round, the remaining three quarter-final places among themselves.

The points are distributed as follows:

  • 2 points for a win
  • 1 point for a draw
