1997–98 Serie A (ice hockey) season
The 1997/98 season was the 64th season of the series A1, the highest Italian Hockey League. Champion for the 15th time overall in club history, the HC Bolzano. The HC Val Venosta, AS Varese Hockey and the SV Ritten descended to the second division.

Mode
In the main round each of the 14 teams completed a total of 26 games. The top six teams in the main round qualified for the final round, while the remaining eight teams had to play in the relegation round. All six teams in the final round qualified for the playoffs, where the Master was played. The four berstplatzierten teams in the relegation round qualified for the playoff qualification for which both winners also allowed to participate in the playoffs. The two losers of the qualification playoff and the four last placed the relegation round had to compete for the league in the relegation. The three last placed the relegation rose directly from the second division. For a win, each team received three points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
