1997 Beach Volleyball World Championships
The beach volleyball World Cup 1997 was held from September 10 to 13 in Los Angeles (United States) instead. The competitions for men and women were held in parallel. It was the first official World Cup. In women, the Brazilians Sandra Pires and Jackie Silva prevailed in the final against the U.S. women Lisa Arce and Holly McPeak. For men, the Brazilian Guilherme Marques and Pará won with a victory in the final against the Americans Mike Whitmarsh and Canyon Ceman. The German Volleyball Federation was represented by five, Austria and Switzerland, each with three teams.
Organization
The games were held on the grounds of UCLA. The tournament were carried out in single elimination mode. The winning duo received $ 30,000 each.
