Mode

  • The winners of the first round of the World Group play in the semifinals to reach the finals.
  • The losers of the first round of the World Group play against a winner of the World Group II first round. The winners play in the World Group in 1998 and the losers play in the 1998 World Group II
  • The losers of the World Group II first round play against an experienced team. The qualified teams consist of two teams in the Europe / Africa Zone and each with a team from the Asien-/Ozeanien-Zone and the America zone. The winners play in the 1998 World Group II and the losers in the respective zone.
