A World Championship
The U20 -A World Cup was in Switzerland at two venues from 26 December 1996 to 4 January 1997 - Geneva and Morges - is discharged. It was played in the Geneva ice rink Vernets ( 6,837 seats) and in Patinoire des Eaux- Minérales in Morges with 2,400 seats. A total of 31 336 spectators attended the 31 tournament games, corresponding to an average of 1,011 per game.
At ten teams participated in this tournament who played for five teams during the preliminary round into two groups.
Mode
Approved male players were under 20 years old (U -20). Participated have ten teams were divided into two groups of five teams. Each team played once against each group opponent. Subsequently, the two last of the two groups the only losers played in the relegation round of the B World Cup. The top three teams in each group played the play- offs from the world title, the two group winners received a bye to the semifinals.
