1998 1. deild

The Faroe Islands Football Cup 1998 was held in the first Deild said first Faroese league and overall was the 56th season. It started on 2 May 1998 with the play of TB Tvøroyri against VB Vágur and ended on 3 October 1998.

The climber SÍ Sumba and TB Tvøroyri returned to six and one year the top division. Master was HB Tórshavn, which could thus win the title for the 15th time. Defending B36 Tórshavn landed on the third place. Had to dismount the other hand, TB Tvøroyri after a year of excellence.

This was also the best odds for the season of Meistaradeildin 1972. In the first Deild each team to play 18 days played two games against each other. The point- best team in the season-ending stable as champions this league, the last team got down to the 2nd Deild. Course of the season

Cup decision

NSÍ Runavík stood on the first two match days up front. After a 0:4 at home against the tied Followers HB Tórshavn both teams swapped places. HB was able to extend the lead to five points before been collected on the tenth match day 2:3 at home against B36 Tórshavn their first defeat. This should remain the only defeat in the season. After five wins in a row, the projection grew to seven points, the decision for the championship was still only in the penultimate round. The previously runner- B36 Tórshavn here lost his match at GÍ Gøta with 2:5, where Jákup á Borg in the seventh minute opened the scoring for B36, before the break but GÍ drew 3-1 away. HB Tórshavn won during its 4-1 against SÍ Sumba and could not therefore be sought. After initial residue by Birgir Jørgensen in the tenth minute and HB still turned the game in their favor.

Relegation battle

After a 2-2 draw to kick off against VB Vágur followed for TB Tvøroyri three defeats in a row and the crash on the last place. The first and only win was only on 14 Gameday in the away game against ÍF Fuglafjørður 2-1. This causes the relegation place was occupied briefly by further defeats occupied TB from 16 Matchday back end of the table. The last season game was lost to GÍ Gøta with 1:5, already in the second minute got TB a goal by Søren S. Jørgensen behind, and ran this after the entire season. National Cup

In the National Cup HB Tórshavn won 2-0 against KÍ Klaksvík and thus achieved the double.

European Cup

1998/99 B36 Tórshavn played as a champion of last year in qualifying for the Champions League against Beitar Jerusalem ( Israel). The first leg was lost with 1:4, the return leg 0-1.

HB Tórshavn played in the qualification for the UEFA Cup. The home game against Vaasa PS (Finland ) was won 2-0, the second leg, however, was lost with 0:4.

GÍ Gøta played as cup winners last year in qualifying for the European Cup Winners' Cup against MTK Hungaria FC ( Hungary) and lost with 1:3 and 0:7.

VB Vágur took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The first leg in the first round against 1 FC Brno (Czech Republic ) has been lost with 0:3, the return match with 1:3.
