1998 European Men's Handball Championship
The 3rd European Handball Championship for men was held in Italy from 29 May to 7 June 1998. The title was won the Swedish national handball team that could defeat Spain in the final. The German selection in third place, Austria and Switzerland did not qualify for the finals.

Preliminary round
In the preliminary round, the twelve qualified teams played in two groups of six teams. Within a group, each team met once against any other team. The top two teams in each group qualified for the semi-finals.
