The 97th French Open 1998 took place from May 25 to June 7, 1998 in Paris, France.
It took in the main round of 128 men and women at the individual competitions.
Defender of the single were Gustavo Kuerten in the men's and Iva Majoli with the ladies. In the men's doubles were Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Daniel Vacek, in women's doubles Gigi Fernández and Natallja Swerawa the defending champions. Rika Hiraki and Mahesh Bhupathi were the defending champions in the mixed doubles.
In the men's singles Carlos Moyá won his first Grand Slam title in women's singles to Arantxa Sánchez Vicario secured her third French Open title. In the men's doubles Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis won their second title at the French Open after 1995 in women's doubles won Martina Hingis and Jana Novotná. Winner in the Mixed Competition were Venus Williams and Justin Gimelstob.
