The Faroe Islands Football Championship 1999 was held in the first Deild said first Faroese league and overall was the 57th season. It started on April 25, 1999 and ended on October 2, 1999.

Movers B71 Sandur returned after a year back in the top flight. Master was KÍ Klaksvík who could thus win the title for the 17th time. Defending champions HB Tórshavn landed in fourth place. Descent on the other hand had ÍF Fuglafjørður after four years of excellence.

In comparison to the previous season, the strike rate deteriorated to 3.46 per game, which meant the lowest average since 1996. Highest wins achieved HB Tórshavn with a 7-1 at home against B71 Sandur on the final day and B71 Sandur with a 6-0 at home to ÍF Fuglafjørður on matchday six. The highest-scoring game, there were between GÍ Gøta and SÍ Sumba on matchday with a 7:2.

Mode

In the first Deild each team to play 18 days played two games against each other. The point- best team in the season-ending stable as champions this league, the last team got down to the 2nd Deild. The ninth- place finisher also had to unsubscribe to the whereabouts in the first Deild two relegation matches against the runner-up of the second Deild.

Course of the season

Cup decision

First leader of the season was B36 Tórshavn. Rate this place they had to resign after a 0-0 draw at VB Vágur to KÍ Klaksvík. After KÍ not make it past a 0-0 draw against second-placed HB Tórshavn, the lead changed back to B36. This could extend this to up to three points after the 2:4 defeat at HB Tórshavn on Matchday B36, KÍ, GÍ Gøta and HB were tied in front. After the 2:3 defeat of B36 against KÍ Klaksvík on the eighth matchday KÍ pushed back to square one. It was followed by four more victories and the projection grew to three points. A draw and a defeat in the next two games once more drove a place exchange with B36, which in turn celebrated five victories in a row, then enough for a tie for first place on goal difference. On the 15th matchday came through the 0-2 defeat of B36 against HB last time to change. The decision for the championship was only on the last day. However, since both the runner GÍ Gøta ( 3-0 B68 Toftir ) and the first place winner KÍ Klaksvík ( 4-1 ÍF Fuglafjørður ) won their games, it remained at this table constellation. The two competitors were each an early lead that was never threatened. So Henning Jarnskor scored for GÍ in the seventh minute 1-0, for KÍ met Harley Bertholdsen in the eleventh minute for guidance.

Relegation battle

ÍF Fuglafjørður started expectantly with four points from their first two games in the season. However, seven consecutive defeats left the team to crash on the penultimate place, until 14 Round achieved with a 2:1 in B68 Toftir the next victory. After 17 matches and the 1:5 defeat against GÍ Gøta could not be achieved eighth place for direct relegation.

SÍ Sumba finished last in 16 of the 18 game days. Exception here were only the first and last round. On the ninth Gameday was achieved with a 1-0 win over VB Vágur the first victory. In the season finale, the direct competitor ÍF Fuglafjørður lost with 1:4 at KÍ Klaksvík after an early goal in the eleventh minute. Sumba, however, succeeded against VB Vágur also the second win of the season in the away game of the enemy was defeated 2-1, the winning goal scored Spasoje Biberdzic in the final minute. Thus SÍ Sumba could still go by ÍF.

National Cup

In the National Cup KÍ Klaksvík won 3-1 against B36 Tórshavn and thus achieved the double.

European Cup

1999/2000 played HB Tórshavn as a champion of last year in qualifying for the Champions League against FC Haka (Finland). The first leg was a 1-1 be achieved, the second leg, however, was lost with 0:6.

KÍ Klaksvík played as a trophy finalist last year in qualifying for the UEFA Cup. The home game against Grazer AK ( Austria ) has been lost with 0:5, the return match with 0:4.

B36 Tórshavn also played in the qualification for the UEFA Cup against MKE Ankaragucu (Turkey) and lost the return match 0-1, respectively.

GÍ Gøta took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The first leg in the first round against NK Jedinstvo Bihać (Bosnia ) GÍ lost 0-3, but the second leg was won 1-0.
