1999–2000 DFB-Pokal
The DFB Cup main round of 1999/2000 was held in spite of only 64 teams strong field of participants with an additional round. The Bundesliga teams who took part in European competitions, had no play in the first two rounds, and should be relieved. To make this possible an additional round was necessary. However, the DFB returned already in the next major round back to the old mode.
DFB Cup winner in 2000 was the FC Bayern Munich. In the final at the Olympiastadion Berlin Bayern Munich won on 6 May 2000 3-0 against Werder Bremen. In the final pairing of the previous year remake of favorite game determined the course clearly and let the outsiders no chance of a repeat of the success of 1999. Guide fell by almost an hour.
Since the Bavarians took part in the UEFA Champions League 2000 /01, which they won, Werder could start in the UEFA Cup 2000/ 01, but failed in the 3rd round at Girondins Bordeaux.

Because of their participation in European competitions following teams for the second round had a bye: Bayern Munich, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Hertha BSC, Borussia Dortmund, 1.FC Kaiserslautern, VfL Wolfsburg, Werder Bremen, Hamburger SV and MSV Duisburg.
