1999 British Touring Car Championship season

The 42nd season of the British Touring Car Championship began on 4 April 1999 in Donington Park and ended on September 19, 1999 in Silverstone. After 26 races Laurent Aiello won ahead of David Leslie (both Nissan Primera ) and last year's winner Rickard Rydell (Volvo S40). Winning the Constructors' Championship was Nissan.

Changes

  • Audi and Peugeot left the championship for the season 1999. Renault, Volvo and Nissan, the masters of the past three years, announced the end of the 1999 season, also to leave the BTCC.
  • In Snetterton for the first time, a night race took place. The pit lane and spectator areas were illuminated, while the rest of the track parts were left in total darkness. In order to facilitate the drivers changing light conditions ( light to dark and dark to light ), a soft red light was installed in the cockpit.
