Defending champion Carlos was Moyá. The final disputed Andre Agassi and Andriy Medvedev, which won Agassi in five sets. This was his first triumph at the French Open and his fourth overall Grand Slam title, and thereby he reached the fifth player in history the career Grand Slam.
