1999 NHL Entry Draft

The NHL Entry Draft in 1999, the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League, took place on 26 June 1999 in the Fleet Center in the U.S. Boston, Massachusetts instead.

A total of 272 players were taken in nine rounds. The Vancouver Canucks had everything done in advance for it to get to two front draft positions in order to select the two Swedish brothers Daniel and Henrik Sedin, at positions 2 and 3. With the Czechs Patrik Štefan, who was elected as a top draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers and Pavel Brendl two other Europeans were elected at the first and fourth place, but did not meet the expectations in retrospect. The activity of the Canucks made sure that the first ten picks distributed on only six different franchises. Since the Americans Tim Connolly was elected the fifth, followed by Brian Finley the first Canadian ranks only sixth and thus as late as never before. Similarly, only a defender was among the top 10 another star could be the Ottawa Senators with Martin Havlát secure at the end of the first round yet. Among the good drafts the later rounds included in the seventh round Martin Erat, Henrik Zetterberg and Radim Vrbata and in round 8 Alexander Chawanow.
