Defending champion Serena Williams and Max Mirny were, however, Williams took this year not participate in the event.

The final disputed Lisa Raymond and Leander Paes against Anna Kournikova and Jonas Bjorkman, which won Raymond and Paes in 3 sets.

For Raymond, it was by the mixed success at the U.S. Open in 1996, the second Grand Slam title of her career. Paes won ( with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi ) and the double competition at this tournament and holds together with the doubles title in Paris this year now stands at three Grand Slam titles.
