1999 World Women's Handball Championship

The 14th World Handball Championship for Women was held in Norway and Denmark from 29 November to 12 December 1999. A total of 24 teams were initially divided into four groups in a preliminary round against each other. This was followed by elimination games with knockout round, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals and placement matches for positions 3 to 8 World Cup 1999 Norway to a 25:24 victory in the final against France.

The first four teams in each group qualified for the knockout stages. In case of a tie, the point, the direct comparison between these two or more teams was the first decision criterion for table formation.

The losers of the quarter-finals came in two games at gegeinander. The winners of the two games played on the following day for 5th place, the two losers for 7th place
