It is isomeric with 1 -bromobutane, isobutyl and tert -butyl bromide and belongs to the group of Butylbromide. It is itself in two enantiomeric forms (R) 2 -bromobutane and (S )-2- bromobutane, above.
Production and representation
2 -bromobutane can be obtained by reaction of 1- butene, 2 -butene or 2-butanol with hydrogen bromide.
Use
2 -bromobutane is for the production of drugs and perfumes used ( for the introduction of butyl group ).
Safety
