2- bromobutyric acid (2- bromobutyric ) is one of the organic compounds and is an α -bromo derivative of butyric acid.
Production and representation
2- bromobutyric acid as α -halo carboxylic acid is easily figure out butyric acid, elemental bromine and red phosphorus. This formation reaction is called the Hell-Volhard - Zelinsky reaction. The volatile esters are lachrymatory.
Stereoisomerism
2- bromobutyric contains a stereocenter, and is therefore chiral. Racemic 2- bromobutyric [ Synonym: (RS )-2- bromobutyric ] is a 1:1 mixture of (R )-2- bromobutyric and (S )-2- bromobutyric.
Reactions
2- bromobutyric acid reacts with water in the presence of triethylamine to give 2- hydroxybutyric acid.
By reaction with aqueous NH3 produced α -aminobutyric acid.
