2-naphthol (including β -naphthol ) is an organic chemical compound. The structure consists of a naphthalene with an added hydroxyl group ( -OH). It can therefore also be described as 2-hydroxynaphthalene. There is an isomer of 1-naphthol ( α -naphthol, 1- Hydroxynaphthalene ).
Representation
2-naphthol can be obtained by alkaline hydrolysis of sodium naphthalene- 2-sulfonate, by the oxidation of naphthalene or 2 -bromonaphthalene, and butyl hydroperoxide.
