At the summit, there was a battle for the championship between Sochaux and Lorient, which was not decided until the last round. With these two teams even the best-placed relegated from the Hérault could no longer keep up, but at the end - unlike Montpellier " fellow sufferers " Nancy and Le Havre - could be early sure to create the immediate resurgence. In the beginning with Table eleventh relegation zone all three promoted from the third division were to be found, of which only Beauvais could reasonably temporarily secure the further second league affiliation, while Angers had to go back up the rear there immediately. This lot should have been made also to FC Martigues than third-bottom; but because with FC Toulouse one of the sporting Erstligaabsteiger administratively in the National " demoted " was Martigues remained in Division 2

In the 380 matches 883 goals were scored; which corresponds to an average of 2.3 goals per game.
