2000 African Women's Championship

The African Cup of Women 2000 (English: African Women Championship, French: Championnat d' Afrique de football féminin ) was the 4th playout of the African Continental Championships in women's football and was held from 11 to 25 November in South Africa instead. Venues were Thembisa and Vosloorus. .

Defending champions Nigeria won the title again, becoming the fourth consecutive time African champions.

Mode

The eight teams were divided into two groups of four. Within the preliminary groups, each team plays once against each other. The group winners and the best runners-up spot to reach the semi-finals. The semi-final winners reach the finals, the semi-final losers play for third place.

Qualification

In a knockout round with round-trip game, the finalists were determined. Kenya should compete in a preliminary round against Réunion, but refrained. Defending champions Nigeria and hosts South Africa qualified automatically for the finals.

After Nigeria was gone in 73 minutes with a 2-0 lead, threw South African fans, the line judge Pamela Ochieng (Kenya ), who had correctly displayed not offside, and Nigerian players with bottles and other objects.
