2000 Chevrolet Cup

The Chevrolet Cup 2000 was the 7th edition of the tennis clay court tournament in Santiago de Chile. The tournament was part of the male ATP International Series tournament of the series when again after it has not been staged as part of the ATP Tour in 1999. It was, together with the Citrix Tennis Championships in Delray Beach and the Copenhagen Open from February 28 to March 6, 2000 instead. So it was after the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Pegaso only the second tournament of the season, which was played on sand. It was the last time the tournament was held in Santiago de Chile, as in the 2001 season was a move to Viña del Mar. The prize money was in each case for single and double tournament $ 350,000. In individual 32 players competed against each other in a double there were 16 pairings.

Defending the individual competition was the Spaniard Francisco Clavet, who did not compete this year. It won the set at position one Brazilian Gustavo Kuerten, who thus celebrated the second title of the season and sixth singles title of his career. He did not lose a single set in the entire course of the tournament.

Kuerten was also able to win the doubles tournament for himself on the side of his partner Antonio Prieto. This was after 1996 his second doubles title at this tournament, and the seventh of his career. For Prieto, it was the first and only tournament success on the ATP Tour. The two Argentinian defending champion Mariano Hood and Sebastián Prieto left at four set out in the first round.
