2000 Tennis Masters Cup

The Tennis Masters Cup in 2000 was the 31st edition of the Tennis Masters Cup and presented the final individual tournament of the season with the top eight players in the tennis world rankings dar. It was held from 28 November to 3 December 2000 on the first and only time held in Lisbon on a hard court in the hall. In addition, it was the first time that the tournament has been held under that name. Until this season, it was marketed as ATP World Tour Championships. The corresponding double tournament, the ATP Tour World Doubles Championships, held in Bangalore from 13 December.

In contrast to all other tournaments on the ATP Tour, the final tournaments were not consistently performed in the KO system. Instead, hit the eight participants divided into two groups, first in the round-robin mode to one another, in which the two best players of both groups were advancing to the semifinals. Only from this, the tournament was played with elimination rounds.

Likewise, contrary to the other ATP tournaments the prize money was paid. Here was one of not only the placement, but the obtained matches and sets also had interest in the amount of the distribution for each player. Overall, the prize pool was 3.7 million U.S. dollars.

It won the Brazilian Gustavo Kuerten, who finished becoming the first South American season as the leader of the world rankings. He defeated among others, in the semifinals last year's winner Pete Sampras.
