2001–02 League of Ireland
The League of Ireland 2001/ 02 was the 81st season of the highest Irish Football League. With the end of the season, the league was reduced to ten teams.
Shelbourne FC won the championship.
Final Table
- St Patrick's Athletic were deducted 9 points for the use of non-approved Paul Marney in the first three rounds. However, an arbitration court withdrew this decision, and an appeal of the Shelbourne FC was dismissed. On 22 March 2002, the team were deducted 15 points because they are not in the Association registered Charles Mbabazi Livingstone had used during the first five games.
Expulsion
The ninth -placed Longford Town won the relegation to the Second of the First Division, Finn Harps, and remained in the first division.
