2001 1. deild

The Faroe Islands Football Championship 2001 was held in the first Deild said first Faroese league and overall was the 59th season. It started on April 29, 2001 and ended on 29 September 2001.

Movers EB / Streymur returned after six years back in the top flight. Master was B36 Tórshavn, which could thus win the title for the seventh time. Defending VB Vágur landed in fourth place. Descent on the other hand had to B71 Sandur after three years and FS Vágar after two years of excellence.

In comparison to the previous season, the strike rate deteriorated to 3.67 per game. The highest victory achieved B36 Tórshavn with a 15-0 at home against FS Vágar on Matchday. This was also the highest-scoring game.

Mode

In the first Deild each team to play 18 days played two games against each other. The point- best team in the season-ending stable as champions this league, the last team got down to the 2nd Deild, level on points decided for the first time a direct comparison. The ninth- place finisher also had to unsubscribe to the whereabouts in the first Deild two relegation matches against the runner-up of the second Deild.

Course of the season

Cup decision

GÍ Gøta won the first ten season games, so everything looked after the safe title. From the third round of the team consistently ranked the first place, the lead grew to five points ahead of the nearest rival B36 Tórshavn. Through a draw and the 1-3 away defeat in a direct duel with B36 on 13 Matchday both teams were now level on points at the top, however, changed the lead on goal difference. The first leg was 3-1 GÍ yet to decide for themselves, followed by the opponent B36 only victories. The decision for the championship fell two games remaining. B36 Tórshavn secured the title with a 1-0 against HB Tórshavn, while the runner GÍ Gøta only played 2:2 at B68 Toftir. On the final day B36 conceded against VB Vágur the second defeat of the season, which, however, had no effect.

Relegation battle

After two opening defeats FS Vágar could leave the last place again briefly with a 1-0 victory at B71 Sandur, which, however, was occupied again from the fourth matchday. After two more wins, the courts were exchanged on the twelfth matchday B71 Sandur. By the end of the season but did not manage another victory, the last place team held the 15th Round by the end of the season. The last game at HB Torshavn should have necessarily won, at least yet to reach the relegation place and it could be achieved even the lead, ultimately, a 2:8 defeat was conceded. B71 Sandur lost 0-3 to GÍ Gøta also.

B71 Sandur won the first game 1-0 against EB / Streymur, the next eight games the team remained winless and then crashed on the penultimate place. On the twelfth Gameday from slipped B71 even to the last place, but could leave these again by a 3-2 win against HB Tórshavn. With two wins in the last two games of the season, the opportunity would have passed to reach eighth place, the game on 17 Gameday at NSÍ Runavík but was lost with 2:3, as the last game. The relegation place was maintained.

National Cup

In the National Cup B36 Tórshavn won 1-0 against KÍ Klaksvík and thus achieved the double.

European Cup

2001/ 02 VB Vágur played as a champion of last year in qualifying for the Champions League against Slawija Mazyr ( Belarus ) The first leg went 0-0, lost the second leg VB with 0:5.

HB Tórshavn played in the qualification for the UEFA Cup. In the home match against Grazer AK ( Austria ) was achieved with a 2-2, the second leg was lost with 0:4.

GÍ Gøta played as cup winners of the previous year also in the qualification for the UEFA Cup. At home lost GÍ against FK Obilić (Serbia and Montenegro) with 0:4, the second leg went from 1:1.

B68 Toftir took part in the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The first leg in the first round against SC Lokeren (Belgium ) has been lost with 2:4, the second leg finished 0-0.
