2001 Beach Volleyball World Championships
The Beach Volleyball World Championship 2001 was held from August 5 in Klagenfurt ( Austria ) from 1. The competitions for men and women were held in parallel. It was the third official World Cup. In the women's Adriana Behar and Bede Shelda defended her title in the final against their Brazilian rivals Sandra Pires and Tatiana Minello. The Czechs Eva Celbová and Soňa Novakova - Dosoudilová won the first European duo a medal. For men, the Argentine Martín Conde and Mariano Baracetti prevailed in the final against the Brazilians Ricardo Santos and Jose Loiola. Austria was represented as hosts with ten, the German Volleyball Federation and Switzerland each with six teams.

In the women were 47 and for men 48 teams competed. In sixteen preliminary round groups of three teams played FFA for a place in the main round. The top two teams from each group reached the next round. From there on it was in the simple knockout system on to the finals. The winning duo were rewarded each with 500 points for the world rankings and $ 47,000 in prize money.
