2001 Tippeligaen

The Tippeligaen 2001 was the 57th season of Norway's highest football league and the eleventh season under the name Tippeligaen. The season began on April 16, 2001 and ended on 10 November 2001 with the second qualification game.

Mode

The fourteen teams in the league played in a single round-trip round against each other, so that each team completed 26 games. The two last placed athlete had to dismount. The third last had to play in home and away leg against third- placed teams from the first Divisjon to the whereabouts in the Tippeligaen.

Season

Rosenborg BK won for the tenth consecutive year the Norwegian championship. It was also the 16th championship for the team.

The season was very balanced from start to finish. No team was able to sell more than four points in the course of the season. Significantly stood after the second game with Tromsø IL ( with two wins and six points ) at the top, which succeeded in the rest of the season, only to land the team a further two victories and finally descend lying in the first Divisjon in last place. After the eleventh Round Viking and Rosenborg were tied in front and had a small cushion of six points ahead of the rest of the league. But then Lillestrøm and Brann Bergen and Stabæk drew near again. Until the 18th matchday first five teams separated only a maximum of four points. However, in the last quarter of the season then fell back successively Stabæk and Brann. After 22 Round Viking also on six points from Rosenborg was distant. Rosenborg won between 15 and 22 Round consecutively eight times. Despite the defeat (1:2) Lillestrøm against direct rivals Rosenborg on 24 matches and four points behind the decision was made in favor of Rosenborg only on the final day. With just one point ahead of Rosenborg BK secured the championship. Lillestrøm secured the second place and qualifying for the Champions League.

Viking won the cup. It was the fifth overall victory and first since 1989. Among the climbers Lyn Oslo and Sogndal IL were able to maintain in the Tippeligaen. Strømsgodset IF, however, was relegated in the first Divisjon again.

  • Top scorers of the league were Thorstein Helstad Brann Bergen ( the second time ), Frode Johnsen Rosenborg BK and the first foreign players in the Australian Clayton Zane Lillestrøm SK. All three each scored 17 goals.
  • A total of 651 goals in 182 games fell, corresponding to an average of 3.58 goals per game.
  • The games were 1,013,264 viewers on average there were 5,567 per game.
