2001 World Women's Handball Championship
The 15th World Handball Championship for Women was held in Italy on 4 December to 16 December 2001. A total of 24 teams were initially divided into four groups in a preliminary round against each other. This was followed by elimination games with knockout round, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals and placement matches for positions 3 to 6 world champions Russia in 2001 was for a 30:25 victory in the final against Norway.
