2002–03 Football League First Division

The Football League First Division 2002/ 03 was the eleventh season of top division of the Football League after the introduction of the Premier League as only second highest English league. It started on 10 August 2002 with the first match and ended on May 26, 2003 with the play-off final. The championship was won by Portsmouth FC, who at the same time secured the participation in the 2003/ 04 Premier League season. Behind runner- Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers climbed as playoff winners on to the Premier League. In the Football League Second Division had to descend Sheffield Wednesday, Brighton & Hove Albion and Grimsby Town.
