2002–03 Nationalliga A season
The season 2002 /03 was the 65th regular season of the National League A. The HC Lugano was in the play-off final against the Swiss champions HC Davos. The EHC Basel was ' B- Masters ' ( 3-2 playoff winner in the final against EHC Visp ) and rose without relegation matches on in the NLA, which was thus carried out in the following season with 13 teams.

Mode
Were played by the 12 teams 2 double rounds of 22 games. After that, the best eight teams determined the Swiss champion in playoff style. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals were played each after the mode Best of Seven.
The last two teams determined in the play- outs the team that had to play for the league against the champions of the National League B.

Play -out
Due to the scandal involving the use of an ineligible player by the Fribourg- Gottéron and the resulting game rating to the detriment of Fribourg, the table of the National League A was changed so that the SC Langnau was transferred to the 11th place in the table. This is what the SC Langnau refused to play- outs to occur, which were subsequently canceled by the Association.
