2002 Men's Hockey World Cup
The 10th Field Hockey Men's World Championship was held from February 24 to March 9, 2002 at Malaysia National Hockey Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Originally, the tournament would be held in Lahore. Because of the uncertain security situation, by the then military intervention of NATO in Afghanistan but Pakistan was not in a position to perform the title fights. It took sixteen teams participating in the tournament, were initially divided into two groups.

Venue
The Malaysia National Hockey Stadium was the only venue for the field hockey World Cup. It has a capacity of up to 12,000 spectators and was built in 1997.
Qualification
Directly qualified were the five continental champions
In addition, two teams qualified via the truncation at the Olympic Games, namely Pakistan ( 4 ) and England ( 6 ). Similarly, the Netherlands was set as the defending champion and host Malaysia
The other participants were selected in a qualifying tournament, which until July 29, 2002 took place from 17th in Edinburgh. Here, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Belgium, India, Japan and New Zealand qualified
