2002 WNBA season
The 2002 season of the Women's National Basketball Association was the sixth season played out of North American women's professional basketball league. The regular season began on 25 May 2002 with the opening games between the Los Angeles Sparks and New York Liberty and the Utah Starzz and the Minnesota Wild. After finishing the regular season, which was held until 13 August 2002 the playoffs began at the WNBA Championship, the Los Angeles Sparks decided on August 31 in the second final game against the New York Liberty for themselves. Moreover, took place on 15 July 2002, MCI Center, the home stadium of the Washington Mystics, Washington, DC the fourth place WNBA All-Star Game.

Draft

On 20 April 2002, the WNBA Draft was held. The selection order of the WNBA Draft was set in a lottery. This won the Seattle Storm against the Detroit Shock.
As a first pick pulled the Storm Sue Bird. After that Detroit chose in second place Swin Cash. Overall, the 16 franchises secured the rights to 64 players. The lion's share with 58 players represented the United States.
