2003–04 DFB-Pokal

DFB Cup winner in 2004 was Werder Bremen. In the final at the Olympiastadion Berlin Werder Bremen won on May 29, 2004 3-2 victory over second division Alemannia Aachen, who had turned in the quarterfinals defending champion Bayern Munich. Werder secured by winning the DFB Cup for the first time the so-called double after being previously become German champions. What was surprising was the success of VfB Lübeck, who ever reached the semifinals as the first Schleswig -Holstein football club and even then only barely defeated Werder Bremen. Especially was the fact that only three of eight quarter-finalists were from the Bundesliga.

Since the Bremen in the UEFA Champions League 2004 /05 attended, where they were eliminated in the second round against Olympique Lyon, Aachen was able to start the first time in the UEFA Cup 2004/ 05, where the Dutch representative AZ Alkmaar was too strong in the final sixteenth.
