Course of the season and Table

Each team wore against each group opponent a back and a leg off, even before a home crowd and once away. It was the three- point rule; case of a tie, the goal difference was the decisive factor for the placement.

With Saint- Étienne, the French record champions returned to the " footballing upper house " back; accompanied the Verts by the team from Caen and - for the first time in their club history - those from Istres. In contrast, the Merlus from Lorient failed as in fourth for the second year in a row just outside the re-emergence; not fared better Erstligaabsteigern the three who had to set up all to another year in Ligue 2. In the lower region of the table had until shortly before the end of this season, eight teams fight it, do not belong to the two teams that accompanied the early decapitated "Red Devils " from Rouen to the third tier. This lot finally met last year promoted Besançon - the team from the capital of the Franche -Comté is until the second decade of the 21st century into the team with the most second division years in France - and the " Armenian " from Valence.

In the 380 matches 860 goals were scored; which corresponds to an average of just 2.3 goals per game. Goalscorer and thus winning the league's top scorer was David Suarez from Amiens with 17 hits. For the following season came with En Avant Guingamp, Le Mans UC and HSC Montpellier three relegated from Ligue 1 added; from the third- highest division increased to three teams, namely FCO Dijon, Brest and Stade Reims.
