2003 Cricket World Cup

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2003, which was held in South Africa between 9 February and 24 March 2003 was the eighth Cricket World Cup and the first one was held on the African continent. The World Cup is One- Day International format discharged, in which each team plays each innings over a maximum of 50 over. Australia was able to defend his title in 1999 in the final against India.

Participant

Venues

As venues 12 stages were selected in South Africa two stadiums in Zimbabwe and one in Kenya. In the stadiums were not in South Africa some preliminary round matches were held with the participation of the respective home teams. However, the team from England in Harare and the New Zealand team in Nairobi refused to compete and make reference to security risks.

Format

In two preliminary groups, each with seven teams played against each, with one win 4 points, a draw or no result earned 2 points. It qualified the first three of each group for the so-called Super Six, in which each team was playing against the teams to which it was not taken in the first round and the results of which they took over in this round. It then qualified the first four of the table for the semifinals, whose winners then playing off the final. Overall, there was thus 54 encounters.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was played in two groups of seven teams, with each of the first three of a group qualified for the Super Six. In the tables, the following designations are used:

Group A

The game should take place in the capital, Harare simabweschen, which rejected the English team for security reasons.

Group B

Super Six

In each case, the first three in each group qualified for this round.
