2003 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships

The 33 Canoe Sprint World Championships were held from 10th to 14th September 2003 in the United States in Gainesville (Georgia ) instead. The competitions were held on Lake Lanier. The World Championships were organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF).

A total of 27 competitions were held in the disciplines of canoe and kayak, with 18 for men and 9 for women only, because in them only kayak competitions were held. The distances of the races were 200 m, 500 m and 1000 m.

Doping

The Russian Sergey Ulegin won two gold and one silver medal, but were denied him because of the use of doping substances again. His racing colleagues in the C-2 500m ( Aleksandr Kostoglod ), C - 4 200 m ( Kostoglod, Roman Kruglyakov, and Maxim Opalev ), and C-4 500 m ( Kostoglod, Kruglyakov, and Opalev ) also had to hand over the medals. Ulegin was excluded for 2 years from the sport.
