Return

Inter had already been winning by 2-0 in Rome in a very good position whereby they could secure with an unchallenged 1-0 success at home to fourth Cup success in the history of the club.

Inter coach Roberto Mancini won this competition so for the ninth time in his career, the third time as a coach and above six times as a player.

Scorer with nine goals Andrea Lazzari of Atalanta, though he failed with his team in the quarter- finals to eventual winners Inter Milan. This was possible because Atalanta had to do far more games through the group stage and the qualifying round.

The mode of the Cup, especially the late boarding the favorites was further criticized. Smaller clubs had fewer opportunities and also had to deliver far more games. Genuine Cup surprises were virtually excluded. The mode was therefore changed to 2005/ 06.
