2004–05 Football League Championship

The Football League Championship 2004/ 05 was the first season of the English Football League Championship and also the 13th season of the top flight of the Football League after the introduction of the Premier League as only second highest English league. It started on August 7, 2004 and ended on 30 May 2005. Championship won the AFC Sunderland, who at the same time secured the participation in the Premier League season 2005/ 06. Behind runner- Wigan Athletic and West Ham United climbed as playoff winners on to the Premier League. Relegated to the Football League One had the Gillingham FC, Nottingham Forest and Rotherham United.
