2005–06 Coppa Italia

The Coppa Italia 2005/ 06, the Italian Cup competition began in the 2005/06 season on August 6, 2005 the first round matches. The two finals were held between Inter Milan and AS Roma on 3 and 11 May 2006. Inter decided the final after a 1-1 draw in the Olympic Stadium of Rome and a 3-1 at home in the Giuseppe Meazza stadium for themselves and celebrated the fifth success in the club's history. It was also the second edition of a series in which always faced from 2005 to 2008, these two teams in the final.

Mode

Overall, participated in the 58th edition of the highest Italian Cup competition 72 teams participate. These were made from the entire Serie A season 2005/ 06, the entire series B of the 2005/06 season and 30 clubs in the Serie C1 and Serie C2 (now combined as Lega Pro) together. The selection of the 30 clubs took over the Lega Italiana Calcio Professionistico after not quite obvious criteria.

Next to the last year's winner Inter Milan teams of the previous year 2004/05 season have been set for the next round, who have qualified for a European cup competition. While Lazio finished second in the final table in 2005 only tenth place, but still managed to qualify for the Intertoto Cup, as the AS Livorno had not reported ( 9th place) as a climber for the Intertoto Cup. The ACR Messina (7th series) and Torino FC (3rd place series B) were denied a license for the Serie A due to high debt burdens in a judgment of 25 July 2005. Likewise, they were not allowed to start in the Coppa Italia.

All other teams are not set wore out to the last sixteen games for the knockout system. As of the last sixteen return game was played each. Until the 2004/ 05 and the other clubs in the Serie A were set for later rounds, but this was changed this year due to years of ongoing protests by the smaller clubs. The main problem is that there were no surprises Cup and basically continued through the established clubs, has remained the same since the eight top clubs last season are still set.

The former teams had home advantage in the first leg. In Torgleichstand was the away goals rule. The results are always to be considered from the perspective of the former team.

The final game was a re-release of the previous year, won in the co- Inter Milan (3-0). With the 4-2 final result that inter- secured again the title and celebrated the fifth Cup win in the club's history.

Inter coach Roberto Mancini won the competition for the tenth time in his career, four times as a coach and above six times as a player.

Scorer with five goals Alessandro Del Piero of Juventus, though he was with his team failed to AS Roma in the quarter- finals.
