2005–06 ECHL season

The 2005/06 season was the 18th regular season of the ECHL. The 25 teams completed in the regular season per 72 encounters. The point of best team in the regular season were the Alaska Aces, which subsequently also their first Kelly Cup won in the play- offs at all.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

  • The Phoenix RoadRunners were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Utah Grizzlies were added as an expansion team in the league.
  • The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies were to Stockton, California, resettled, where they then played under the name Stockton Thunder.
  • The Mississippi Sea Wolves had during this season suspend the operation of gambling because their stadium was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
  • The Texas Wildcatters had to suspend the operation of gambling during this season, because their stadium was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
  • The Louisiana IceGators stopped the game operation.
  • The Pee Dee Pride stopped the game operation.
  • The Peoria Rivermen stopped the game mode because they were replaced by an eponymous franchise of the American Hockey League.
