2005–06 Elitserien season

The Elitserien season 2005/ 06 was the 31st season of the Swedish Elitserien. The preliminary round was played on 26 September 2005 to 6 March 2006 the play-offs began on March 10 and ended with the last final game on April 18. Swedish Champion 2005/ 06 was Färjestad BK, in the Kvalserien, a relegation round between the top four teams in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan and the two last placed the Elitserien, the Malmö Redhawks and Skellefteå AIK occupied the first two places and thus played the next season in the highest league. The two participants in the Elitserien, Södertälje SK and Leksand IF on the other hand rose from the Allsvenskan.

Regular Season

Mode

The twelve teams in the Elitserien came in first in 50 regular season games against each other, the first eight teams in the preliminary round were in the play- offs against each other for teams ranked 9 and 10, the season was over, the two last placed had in the Kvalserien compete.

A victory in the regular season brought a team three points. In Torgleichheit after regular time, extra time has been played in the winning two points, the loser, however, was given one point. A draw after extra time each team got a point. For a loss in regulation time, there were no points.

Groups

The clubs were divided during the first round in three regional groups, the teams from the respective " Derby Groups" more games against each other disputed as against teams from the other groups.
