2005–06 Football League Cup
The League Cup 2005/ 06 was the 46th edition of the tournament The Carling Cup or League Cup. The tournament started with 92 clubs.
The competition started on 22 August 2005 with the First Round and ended with the final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 26 February 2006. The winner of the competition was Manchester United.
First round
The draw for the first round was held on 28 June 2005. All 72 teams in the Football League competed in the first round. The matches were played on 22, 23 and 24 August 2005.
Second Round
In the second round 12 Premier League clubs went into the competition. The pairings were drawn on 27 August 2005 held the games on 20 and 21 September 2005.
Third Round
From the third round were also the clubs which had qualified for the current season for European competitions. The pairings were drawn on 24 September 2005, played the games on 25 and 26 October.

The semi-final matches were held in January. The semi-final was the first and only round that was discharged with return game.
