2005 IIHF World U18 Championships

The 7th World Ice Hockey Championships U18 Juniors of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships were in 2005 in the age group of under- eighteen year olds ( U18). In total, between March 7 and April 24, 2005 40 teams in the six tournaments in the top division and the divisions I to III part. In addition, a qualification to Division III with three participants for the last free place in the tournament was played between the 18th and 20th February 2005.

The world champion was the second time the crew of the United States, which could defeat the final arch-rivals Canada 5-1. The German team was able to prevent the eighth rank in the top division relegation to Division I, Switzerland finished ninth in the top division, an increase from the Division I. Austria was fifth, second from bottom in Group A of Division I and was thus able to avert the slide into Division II.

Top Division

The U18 World Championship was held in the Czech cities of Plzeň and České Budějovice from 14 to 24 April 2005. It was played in the Plzeň Arena ( 8,420 seats) in Plzeň and České Budějovice Budvar Aréna in with 6,421 seats.

At the tournament was attended ten national teams who played in two groups of five teams. The world champion secured the United States, which clearly won in the final 5-1 against Canada. It was the second title for the Americans.

Mode

After the group matches of the preliminary round, the two group winners qualify directly for the semi-finals. The runners-up and third - ever deny a qualifier for the semi-finals. The Fourth and Fifth of the group will contest - if you bring the result of the direct encounter of the first round - the relegation round and thereby determine two relegated to Division I.

Group A in Maribor, Slovenia

The World Cup matches in Group A of Division I were held in the Slovenian city of Maribor from 3 to 9 April 2005. It was played in the Dvorana Tabor, provides places for 3,000 spectators.

Group B in Sosnowiec, Poland

To determine the sixth and final participant in the World Championship Division III qualification was held in the Turkish capital Ankara from 18 to 20 February 2005. All games were held with 1,150 seats in the hall GSGM Buz Pateni sarayi.
