2005 World Table Tennis Championships

The 50th World Table Tennis Championship was held until May 6, 2005 in Shanghai ( People's Republic of China) on 29 April. China was so after 1961 and 1995 for the third time host of the World Table Tennis Championship. There were only conducted individual contests, team competitions were not held as scheduled.

With the German men's doubles Timo Boll and Christian Suss could for the first time in 16 years ( Jörg Rosskopf / Steffen Fetzner In 1989 Dortmund World Champion) regain German athletes at a single World Cup medal.

North Korea commended the World Table Tennis Championships on April 23, 2005, six postage stamps ( Michel catalog No. 4870-4875 ) and a block (No. 615 ) and a first-day stamp. From the Chinese postal China's special were used in Shanghai and other cities.

Men's Singles

Timo Boll reached after beating Joao Monteiro (Portugal ), Wenguan Huang (Canada) and Jörgen Persson (Sweden) the knockout stages. Here he lost to the Chinese Liu Guozheng with 3:4. Jörg Rosskopf won against Ri Chol Guk (North Korea) and Wu Chih- Chi (Taiwan). In the third round, he was eliminated by Chen Qi ( China). Likewise, Zoltan Fejer - Konnerth far came ( victory over Kostadin Lengerov ( Austria ), Lee Jin Kwon (Korea ), losing to Linghui Kong (China) ) and Bastian Steger ( victory over Lubomir Pistej (Slovakia ), Jean -Michel Saive (Belgium ), Lucjan Blaszczyk defeat (Poland ) ). Christian Suss won against Cai Xiao Li ( Singapore), but lost after the Chinese Hao Shuai. Lars Hielscher was eliminated in the first round against Segun Moses Toriola ( Nigeria).

Women's Singles

The most came Elke Wosik, who won against Carina Jonsson (Sweden) and Martina Safran (Slovenia ), but in the third round of Guo Yue (China) has been vanquished. Nicole Struse survived only round 1 where they prevailed against Biljana Todorovic (Slovenia). Then she lost against Sayaka Hirano (Japan). Kristin silver iron also came up in round two. She turned first from Matilda Ekholm (Sweden), then defeated Li Jia Wei ( Singapore). Terminus in the first round was for Tanja Hain- Hofmann ( 2:5 against Pan Li -Chun (Taiwan) ) and Irene Ivancan (1:4 against Kim Mi Yong ( North Korea) ).

Men's doubles

Outstanding course, was the silver medal for Boll / Suss. They won against Chang Yen Shu / Chou Tung- Yu (Taiwan), Choi Hyun Jin / Oh Sang -eun (Korea ), Michael Maze / Finn Tugwell (Denmark), Lucjan Blaszczyk / Wang Zeng Yi (Poland) and the reigning Olympic champion Chen Qi / Ma Lin ( China). In the final, the Chinese Double Kong Linghui / Wang Hao was superior and won 4-1. Hielscher / Rosskopf prevailed against Chiang Hung-Chieh/Wu Chih Chi (Taiwan ), but then lost against Chiang Peng-Lung/Chuang Chih -Yuan (Taiwan). Also came in round 2 Fejer-Konnerth/Steger by defeating Kirill Skachkov / Artur Grigoriev (Russia). The Frenchman Patrick Chila / Damien Eloi but were then too strong.

Women Doubles

Struse / silver iron failed in the second round of Lau Sui Fei / Song Ah Sim ( Hong Kong), after they had prevailed against Chiu Soo Jin / Kim Ng Sock (Malaysia) and Svetlana Ganina / Irina Palina (Russia). Hain-Hofmann/Wosik won against Kasturi Chakraborty / Nandita Saha (India) and then dropped out to Bai Yang / Guo Yan (China).

Mixed

Fejer-Konnerth/Struse qualified by beating Kaii Yoshida / Saki Man Li Kanazawa (Japan), Cheng Yinhua / Jasna Reed ( USA) and Ryu Seung-min/Kim Hye Hyun (Korea ) for the knockout stages, where they the Chinese Qiu Yike / Cao Zhen documents. The three other German Mixed eliminated in round two from: Steger / Wosik ( victory against Joao Monteiro / Lucia Silva (Portugal ), Janos Jakab defeat / Mária Fazekas (Hungary ) ), Hielscher / Hain- Hofmann ( beating Jonathan Salazar / Paula Medina (Colombia ), losing to Adrian Crisan / Otilia Bădescu (Romania ) ), Sweet / silver iron ( beating Christophe Bertin / Carole Grundisch (France), losing to Lee Jin Kwon / Kim Kyung- ah (Korea ) ).

Singles

Timo Boll won the Fair Play Award, because he said referee indicating an opposing edge ball at the crucial stage of the match against Liu Guozheng. In addition, the International Committee acknowledged this behavior for fair play in sport ( CIFP ) and Boll 2006 gave a price.
