2006–07 A-League

The 2006/07 season was the second season of the A-League. The season began on 25 August 2006 with the match Melbourne Victory against Adelaide United and ended with the same pairing in the championship final on 18 February 2007. Melbourne was a 6-0 victory successor of last year's champion Sydney FC.

It was the last season for the New Zealand Knights, which the Australian Association withdrew the license in December 2005. The Knights finished the season under the provisional leadership by the New Zealand Football Association and were subsequently dissolved.

Before the start of the A- League season, the obligatory pre-season Cup was held.

Pre -Season Challenge Cup

The Pre -Season Challenge Cup took place in 2006 as a leading high season in July and August. The eight A- League teams were initially à into two preliminary round groups of four teams split up and played in a simple league round. As an additional play a game against a team from the other group was discharged. In this game, there were in addition to the normal points and bonus points for goals scored. For two goals scored it was a point three goals brought two points for four or more goals were awarded three bonus points.

The two group winners of each group advanced in the semi-finals and played the winner of the knockout process. The third-placed and fourth contributed from placement games.

Some of the games were held in Australian cities without A- League team, to campaign for the league.

In the final Adelaide United won 5-4 on penalties against the defending Central Coast Mariners.
