Season Summary

The 2006/07 season was marked by a very mild and snowless winter in Europe, the narrow snow bands in the green countryside offered, in part at almost summer conditions, an image that hardly resembled winter sports - in the pursuit on 9 December in Hochfilzen wore Ole Einar Bjørndalen even swim trunks over his race suit after the sprint was discharged in summer 19 ° C the day before. In the Biathlon World Cup but no race had to be canceled in contrast to many other winter sports, only those initially planned in Osrblie races were held alternatively in Hochfilzen.

However, the implementation of events was possible in part only with unconventional methods: In addition to artificial snow, which was produced in the few cold nights in advance with snow cannons, lots of snow from partly distant, high-altitude regions was used for the preparation of the pistes - to ensure the World Cup in Oberhof were next cooling tents, necessary for the snow cannons zero temperatures ensured, even 3,600 cubic meters of crushed ice from Bremerhaven used.
