2006 AFC Champions League
The AFC Champions League 2006 is an Asian football tournament, taking part in the 24 club teams from 12 state associations. The competition began on March 8, 2006.

Participant
In contrast to the UEFA Champions League all Asian organizations are not eligible, only 14 of the AFC certain associations is participation possible. Each country sends the respective champions and the cup winners and the runners-up.

The 28 participants from these countries were in the seven groups of four - again separated into East and West Asia - sorted. The seven group winners play along with the defending champion (Al- Ittihad of Saudi Arabia) in the knockout system from the Asian champions. On March 13, 206 participants Thailand and Indonesia were eliminated from the tournament, as they had not named their squad before the deadline.

Quarterfinals
On 13 and 20 September 2006, the quarter-final matches have been played, the draw for the quarter-finals was held in Kuala Lumpur on 2 June 2006.
Semifinal
The semi-finals took place on 27 September and on 18 October 2006.
