2006 Tour de Suisse

The 70th Tour de Suisse was a cycling stage race, which took place from 10 to 18 June 2006. It was held in nine stages over a distance of 1531 kilometers. The race is one of the UCI ProTour 2006.

Route

The first stage was held on a circuit around Baden. The following three stages were flat to slightly wavy and therefore tailored to the capabilities of the sprint specialists. After the 5th stage and the uphill finish in Leukerbad began the challenging part through the Alps. On the 6th stage of the drivers had the Furka Pass, overcome the Oberalp Pass and the Albula Pass.

The 7th stage ran from Engadine over the Julier Pass and Lukmanierpass to Ticino. The eighth stage was a demanding high mountain circular route starting and finishing in Ambri, the route led across the Lukmanierpass and the Oberalp Pass ( both from the opposite side) and finally over the Gotthard Pass. The final decision was made on the 9th stage, an individual time trial in Bern.
