2006 Women's Rugby World Cup

The fifth rugby union world championship of women took place from August 31 to September 17, 2006 in Canada. There were 12 teams ( four less than in 2002 ) in a total of 30 games against each other. These were held in Edmonton and St. Albert, Alberta. New Zealand secured for the third consecutive world title.

With 35 points from seven experiments Heather Moyse was successful points collector.

Preliminary round

There were four groups of three teams. The teams in Group A played against those of group D, the teams in Group B against those of group C. The group winners will qualify for the semifinals, the remaining teams for ranking matches.

The distribution of points in the preliminary round was carried out according to the following system:

  • 4 points for a win
  • 2 points for a draw
  • 0 points for a loss (before possible bonus points )
  • 1 bonus point for four or more successful tries ( attempts), regardless of the Final
  • 1 bonus point for a loss by fewer than seven points difference
