2006 WTA Tour Championships
The WTA Championships 2006 ( also known as Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships ) was an indoor tennis hard court tournament for women at Madrid, Spain. The tournament took place from 7 to 12 November 2006 and was held for the first time in Madrid.
The Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo in the singles and the duo Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur in a double were the defending champions.
Winner of the single was Justine Henin, Amélie Mauresmo defeated with 5:7, 7:63 and 6:4. The double title secured the title defenders. They won the finals again against Cara Black / Rennae Stubbs 3:6, 6:3 and 6:3.

Qualification
The top eight ladies of the WTA Tour qualified for this competition. In addition there were two reservists.
Competition mode
In the round-robin tournament phase (English Round Robin ), played four players in two groups each against all. The two winners of each group qualified for the semi-finals, which was held after the knockout system. The winner of each group played against the second of the other group and the winners of these games contested the final.
