2007–08 Coppa Italia

The Coppa Italia, the Italian cup competition in football, started in the 2007/ 08 season on August 14, 2007 with the first round games and ended on 24 May 2008 with the final between AS Roma and Inter Milan. The Roma won the game and became the ninth time in their history Cup winner. Since both finalists moved in on the league in the Champions League, the seventh -placed Udinese Calcio instead qualified for the UEFA Cup in 2008/09. It was the fourth edition of this final pairing in a row, won two titles at both Inter and Rome.

Mode

For the 60th edition of the competition, the mode has been changed fundamentally. In contrast to previous sweeps only the teams in the Serie A and Serie B were eligible to play. Thus a total of 42 teams took part. In the first round, the teams of the Series B of the 2007/ 08 and the second and third place in 2006/ 07 playing season ( newly promoted to Serie A ). The other teams in the Serie A - with the exception of the eight top finishers of the preseason - went into the third round, while the remaining eight teams in the second round came to participants.

The eighth note, quarter and semi-finals were decided in each case all other rounds return game, only in an encounter.

Due to the huge protests of the third and fourth division, who were not eligible in contrast to previous sweeps, the mode was changed again as early as next year.
